Gambling was so prevalent with soldiers that by 1864 the Army of the James was dubbed the "Army of the Games". The only reform was just before a battle when roadsides were littered with gambling items lest someone was killed with these passports to sin on their persons.
These Civil war era bone dice were made small, just 5/16", to be easily carried in pockets. Carved from animal bone, set in sterling silver, with rivet and diamond. On a 17" oxidized silver chain, made by hand and one of a kind.
